meet the team - 2017
Waiting. I don't know about you, but I am not always good at waiting.
We live in a time when pretty much anything is at our fingertips - we can make phone calls from Target, search the internet to find things to purchase as we travel, learn how to fix or make almost anything from You Tube, and the list goes on and on and on...
For the last couple of months, we have been waiting. Waiting to see if we could travel to Ethiopia for our January trip. The team has waited for the much anticipated answer. Now that we have the green light and our wait is over, I am thrilled to travel with and work alongside another great team.
Introducing the 2017 team...
LEN SCORE
I have been a believer in Christ since 1978 and actively a disciple of Jesus since 2006. I lived on a North Dakota farm as a child but grew up in South Minneapolis and raised a family in Richfield. My wife Carol and I currently live in Maplewood and have attended Woodbury Lutheran since 2008. I have been on mission trips to Ecuador and Phillips Neighborhood and am presently "retired". I spend some of my time as a volunteer ESL tutor and some helping in after-school programs in Minneapolis and St.Paul. In my "spare" time I enjoy the bicycle trails and hiking trails around the metro area.
I enjoy being on a team and I'm looking forward to meeting the children in Ethiopia and coming alongside the staff who work with them, and also to bring home some greater cultural understanding and spiritual insight for the discipleship path.
DAVE AND CHERI FROST
We have been married for 38 years. We have 3 amazing children and 3 equally amazing grandchildren (and a 4th on the way!) Dave is a retired Chemical Engineer with 3M. Cheri spent many years serving at church in a variety of ministries. When we are not hanging out with the grandkids or serving at church, Cheri enjoys traveling, reading, biking, stitching, puzzling and Dave enjoys woodworking, golf, biking and playing Words with Friends.
AMY LARSON
God has blessed me in so many ways throughout my life! I’ve lived in 6 different states (3 of them starting with the letter M) and love living in Minnesota. I am a nurse and have worked as a nurse practitioner in a neurology clinic since 1998 when I moved to Minnesota. I enjoy knitting, baking, reading and playing my flute in time away from work (and rooting for the Spartans and Wolverines!). I have great joy in being part of the Oak Hill Campus and love helping people find the right spot for serving and getting to serve with my friend Cheri as we do the administrative work for the schedule (and lots of other fun things!). I’m excited about traveling to Africa and getting to share God’s love with and participate in a community of people in a culture different from mine. I see a group of patients from East Africa in my practice and I hope this will give me more insight into their lives.
Two verses that have reminded me a lot over the past two summers of God’s promise to always be with me: Exodus 14:13-14 Moses answered, “Don't be afraid! Stand your ground, and you will see what the Lord will do to save you today; you will never see these Egyptians again. The Lord will fight for you, and all you have to do is keep still.”
DEREK AND KRISTIN BROTEN
We have been married for 20 years, and for the last 15 of those years have lived in Woodbury, MN. We have been blessed with four wonderful kids ages 5-15. Derek has served as campus pastor at Woodbury Lutheran's Oak Hill campus for the past four plus years. Missions have been a significant shaper of ministry with him participating in and leading teams to Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Germany and Jamaica, and within the US. Kristin serves as a Preschool teacher at Woodbury Lutheran and loves working with kids. We are looking forward to taking our first mission trip together this January.
REGINA KEHL
I am a full time wife and mother to three daughters. Whether our family is skiing in the mountains (or the hills of MN) or on the river, I love doing life with my crazy crew! If I am not hanging out with family or friends, I enjoy planning for and traveling to Ethiopia to spend time with the staff and children at Ekklesia School as well as visiting families in the community. I look forward to working with another great team as they experience this amazing place filled with amazing people!
HEIDI HOVE
I am a wife, mother of two children, have 3 dogs and am a Realtor. I love traveling and good food. I enjoy gardening, cooking, and have recently taken up knitting. I look forward to going back to Ethiopia with my daughter Kylie and am looking forward to seeing how the children have grown and to see the changes that have taken place at Ekklesia since we were there last year.
KYLIE FISCHBACH
I'm very excited to be going back to Ethiopia. I have been once before and one other mission experience to Kake, Alaska. Both were great experiences and am blessed to be going again with my mom. I have always loved traveling, but art is my passion. I am looking forward to going back, meeting new people and serving others.
JANE ROSE
My name is Jane Rose. I have been married to Dan Rose for 31 years and we have four grown children who have each graduated from college, all with very different career paths. We all believe in and love our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and I have learned through each one of my family members that the expression of our faith is shown in many different ways. Prior to meeting Dan, I was raised in a very conservative Catholic family. After marrying, Dan and I were a part of a mission based Lutheran Church for 10 years before transferring back to his home church (WELS Lutheran) for nearly 20 years. We have been attending Oak Hill for almost 3 years.
I have also been an employee of 3M for 35 years; 11 of those years were part time while raising children. I've had several different positions growing with the company and most recently on the Business Transformation team as Deployment Lead for a new ERP system for the company. This position has required a considerable amount of travel in the last year, helping me to understand and appreciate people from different cultures.
I have had a heart for missions since I was a child, especially for people in areas of the world that may not have heard about Jesus or where the gospel is suppressed. I heard Ben Kehl speak at Oak Hill about the Mission in Ethiopia and knew the time was now for me to get involved.
The highlights or key words that would describe me are determined, independent, fearless, loud, temperamental, sensitive, caring and joyful (not necessarily in that order). I pray that I can use my God given gifts to spread the Gospel through mission work and that I can learn from others and grow to live a more Christ-centered life.
