complete obedience

I don't know about you, but I sometimes struggle to keep my eyes focused on Jesus. I know deep down to my core the gospel message; I know Jesus is my Savior and He loves me.

So what's the problem you might be wondering?

Sometimes my life doesn't reflect what I know. I think for many years I thought of Jesus as my Savior but somehow left out the fact that He is my Lord. And still today, my life doesn't always reflect this. My actions do not always represent the Christian faith well. If I am honest, sometimes my life reflects the selfishness and pride that dwells inside me. Before you go and offer me the following, "You cannot be perfect all the time" or "Your reaction was justified," let's take a walk back in history.

Moses. If you recall the account of Moses, he is a pretty upstanding guy. Even though he seemed to be a bit nervous about the task God had for him, he led the Israelites out of slavery and to the promised land. During that time, he was obedient and served the Lord. He endured the hardship of the people who whined and complained at every turn. He put up with their grumbling for years! As directed, he passed the ten commandments onto them and helped them listen to God. So why is it, after so many years of faithfulness, the one sin he commits, prohibits him from entering into the promised land?

As I ponder this story, it occurs to me - our great God is looking for complete obedience and dependance on Him. If you have been a Christian for any length of time, you know this is impossible. There is only one answer for us, one hope, one way, one truth - Jesus.

And Jesus offers himself to all of us who fall short; He is the only way we can stand before a just and perfect God. (John 14:6)

So as we journey through this life together, I would love to hear from you! How do you practice obedience and dependance on Him? Do you have any practices/habits that help you?
