super powers
A couple of Sundays ago, I was standing in church singing and noticed a little boy in his father's arms. The little boy's hands were occupied by two super heroes. Superman was in one hand... Spiderman was in the other. You couldn't help but notice as they were not little superheroes, but rather large noticeable 20 inch figures!
I know I was in church, but I couldn't help thinking about my favorite superhero - Violet from The Incredibles. I have often thought about Violet's power to create force fields around her family in order to protect them against the "bad guys." I must admit. It would be awfully nice to put a force field around my family to protect them from all the worldly influences. A nice little bubble...
When I returned to reality, I couldn't help but smile as I sang the lyrics to the song we were singing.
You are stronger, You are stronger. Sin is broken, you have saved me.
It is written, Christ is risen. Jesus, you are Lord of all.
In that moment I was reminded - Jesus has all the super powers. He is the one and only super hero we need.
And that is indeed worth smiling about.
