swaying in the wind

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Minnesota State High School League One Act play performances. Although I was exhausted from sitting all day - not sure how that works - I continued to challenge my brain with all I had witnessed. If you have ever watched one act plays, you know they can be comical, dramatic, thought-provoking, and/or... a little edgy.

The thing that was different for me this time was I paid attention to the various opinions of those around me. I recall one person exclaiming, "I loved that one," while the person on my other side saying, "I didn't like that at all." What was even more interesting is I found myself being swayed in the discussion. When someone would point out one thing, I would agree. When someone would disagree with them, it was easy to jump to that side. I was like a long, thick blade of grass and each time the wind swayed, not matter the direction, I would sway right along with it.

Isn't this how we can be in life but with other, bigger issues? What truth do you hold onto? Is there really truth? It seems today we live where there are lots of truths. What works for one may not work for another.

But as Christians, we need to hold to God's truth. His Word fills us with the truth we need. I pray you put on the full armor of God so you don't find yourself swaying in the wind.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:10-18

May the Lord bless each of you with His truth and may you build your house on His rock - Jesus - so you are able to stand firm!
